Gangtok, September 9: Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang informed that Gangtok city and its periphery have been selected in (Sustainable Development Goals) SDG 25+ 5 cities to fulfil the SDGs goals and targets by 2025. This is associated with the United Nations Global Sustainability Index Institute (UNGSII) in co-operation with the United Nations Sustainable Development Solution Network (UNSDSN), United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), World Health Organisation (WHO) and other SDG related partners.
Shri S.D. Dhakal, IAS, Secretary, Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), introduced Gangtok city in the inaugural address through virtual mode on the second Annual SDG Champions Conference held globally today.
Shri Roland Schatz, CEO, UNGSII from Switzerland moderated the conference. After the deliberation by Shri Dhakal, Prof. Paul Barach, SDG3 Clinical Lead from Maryland University, USA, Dr Charles Batte from Makerere University, Uganda, Prof. Peter Crino, Department of Neurology from the University of Maryland, USA and Ms Manuela Boyle from Australia also shared their views during the occasion.
The Hon’ble Chief Minister on behalf of the Government expressed his gratitude towards UNGSII for including Gangtok city as one of the 25+5 SDGs cities globally.
