Three-Day Losar Festival in Lachung comes to a conclusion; Minister Mr Puran Kumar Gurung graces final day as chief guest


Mangan, February 22 (IPR): The Minister for Agriculture Department, Horticulture Department, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH & VS) Department, and Fisheries Department, Mr Puran Kumar Gurung, graced the concluding day of the grand three-day cultural festival organised by the Lachung Dzumsa at Lachung.

The three-day celebration, held in commemoration of Losar, showcased the rich cultural heritage and traditional practices of the region, drawing participation from local artists, cultural groups and invited performers.

Also present were Chairman of the State Medicinal Plants Board, Mr Sonam Gyatso Lachenpa, Chairman of the Forest Department, Mr Pema Wongay Lachungpa, Zilla Adhyaksha, Mr Kado Lepcha, Upadhyaksha, Ms Sonam Kipa Bhutia, Principal Director, Dr Karma Tenzing Bhutia, Lachung Pipons and officials from various line departments.

The final day’s cultural programme commenced with the traditional opening song, Sikkimese Bhutia Lhopoe Toelu, followed by a vibrant Sikkimese Bhutia dance performance by Nima Sher Zung. The Lachung Young Culture Group presented Khongpo Dalu, while an Ongditse Dance (Phumchung Nima) added traditional fervour to the celebration. A Tibetan dance, Sakya Tram & Nyungmo Kyesa, further enthralled the audience.

The Lachung Young Culture Group also performed the Talashi Sikkimese Lachungpa Song, highlighting local musical traditions, while boys presented an Ongditse (Tibetan) dance.

The programme featured performances by the Lachung Young Culture Group and Ongditse Dance troupes, along with several presentations by DLST and various artists, reflecting strong community participation. Special performances were also staged by the Mangan Dream Dance Academy, which added diversity and contemporary elements to the cultural showcase.

The three day event concluded on a festive note, marking a successful and vibrant celebration of Losar.
