Hee-Yangthang Sr Sec School Conducts Disaster Preparedness Training on Flood, Earthquake, and Landslide Management


Gyalshing, February 23:A comprehensive Disaster Preparedness Training Programme on flood, earthquake, and landslide management was successfully conducted at Hee–Yangthang Senior Secondary School, Gyalshing district,today.

The programme was organised by the Rescue and Relief Team(RRT) of the 36th Battalion SSB Gyalshing in collaboration with the school’s NCC/NSS unit and its feeder schools.

The training was attended by the School In-charge-Cum-Vice-Principal Mr Hari Bhandari, teaching staff, teachers from feeder schools, students, and members of the local community.

The primary objective of the programme was to enhance awareness on disaster response and to develop life-saving skills among students and local residents.

During the session, detailed information was provided on safety measures to be adopted during landslides, earthquakes, and floods. Participants were also given practical guidance on precautionary actions to take before, during, and after an earthquake to minimize risks and prevent injuries. The training included demonstrations on personal safety measures, rescue techniques, basic first aid, CPR, and safe methods of transporting injured persons to medical facilities.

Addressing the gathering, resource person HCGD Bhup Singh highlighted the urgent need for preparedness and community awareness in high-risk seismic zones. He emphasised that such programmes equip individuals with the knowledge and skills required to make informed decisions during emergencies. He further stressed the importance of conducting regular mock drills and capacity-building activities, especially prior to high-risk periods. He appreciated the proactive coordination and efforts of the 36th Battalion SSB and expressed hope that similar initiatives would continue in the future.

The programme was supported by HCGD Bhup Singh, HCGD Mahendra Chettri, ASI/GD Omkar Singh, and other team members. The practical rescue demonstrations were carried out by HCGD Bhup Singh and the Disaster Management Team of the 36th Battalion SSB.

The programme concluded with an interactive drill and active participation from students and local residents, reinforcing community-level disaster management preparedness and strengthening emergency response capabilities.
