Sensitization & Awareness Programme on Drug Safety and Reporting of Adverse Drug Reaction held at SMIMS
GANGTOK, 21 August 2032: Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) is any noxious change which is suspected to be due to a drug, occurs at doses normally used in man, requires treatment or decrease in dose or indicates caution in future use of the same drug. Hence, the importance of medication safety especially the efforts to enhance consumer-oriented awareness along with healthcare workers are now a must for any efficient healthcare.
As an initiative to enhance Adverse Drug Reaction Reporting/ Pharmacovigilance activities in Sikkim, Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Center, Sikkim Branch, Department of Pharmacology, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS), Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) under the aegis of Pharmacovigilance Program of India (PvPI) and in collaboration with Quality Department, Central Referral Hospital (CRH),SMU, organised two Sensitization/Awareness Programmes on Drug Safety and Reporting on 19th August 2023, targeting Consumers/ Patients and Healthcare Workers apprising them about the importance of reporting and the methods of reporting adverse drug reactions.
The programme was conducted by Dr. Varun Satpathy, Coordinator and Dr. Ena Pradhan, Deputy-Coordinator, Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Center.
Information about access to various tools like help line toll free number, mobile app, reporting forms and ADR Reporting centres for reporting Adverse Drug Reactions, were given to the consumers/patients & healthcare professionals. As mandated by PvPI, all Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre across India are requested to conduct consumer awareness and healthcare professional sensitisation programme every month to promote drug/medication safety.
