Hon'ble Governor sent Mt. Jongsong and Mt. Domekhang joint climbing campaign by showing green flag
Hon'ble Governor of Sikkim Mr. Om Prakash Mathur today departed the joint climbing drive from Rajbhavan to Mt. Jongsong (7,462 meters) and Mt. Domekhang (7,264 meters) by showing green flag. The campaign is jointly conducted by First Battalion, Sikkim Scouts under the Trishakti Core of Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling and Indian Army.
The Governor congratulated the climbing team in his address that this climbing is not just an adventure, but an example of discipline, commitment and determination. He said the campaign would encourage the spirit of adventure in youth.
During this time, the Hon'ble Governor received detailed information from the team regarding the duration, route and challenges. The Hon'ble Governor was also aware that the campaign will face harsh conditions such as extreme altitude, snowstorm and lack of oxygen.
During the program Colonel Rajneesh Joshi, team leader and HMI principal provided detailed information about the campaign outline and said the campaign will take place in three phases. He said Mount Jongsong is the world's highest rigunction, where India, China and Nepal meet borders.
On this occasion the Governor sir appreciated the role of Trishakti Corps and Sikkim Scouts of the Army. He said these soldiers not only protect borders, but are a source of inspiration for youth and conductors of mountain culture.
