8th convocation of NIT Sikkim concluded

Hon'ble Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur present as Chief Guest

National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim's 8th Convocation Ceremony held today at Congression Hall located at Buddha Park. Hon'ble Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur was present as Chief Guest on the occasion.

A total of 170 titles were awarded on the occasion, including 133 graduates (UG), 22 postgraduates (PG) and 8 Ph.D. titles. These titles were awarded to students in various disciplines such as Engineering, Science, Information Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences. Along with 7 gold medals from different departments were also given to meritorious students.

Mr. Sajan Kumar Bansal, Managing Director, Skipper Limited was also awarded honorary title in this function.

In his address, the Hon'ble Governor said that the function is a celebration of hard work and dedication of the youth. He congratulated the graduated students and made it a proud moment for the students, their parents, teachers and the institution.

The Governor inspiring students said that education is not only to acquire knowledge, but to use it in human values and nation-building. He called on students to keep the spirit of Nation First and said they should use their technical knowledge to innovate, research and serve the village, society, state and nation.

Hon'ble Governor said Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's concept developed India @2047 hero you are young. He urged students to take advantage of Modi government's beneficial schemes like Digital India, Startup India and Standup India. He said that India is one of the leading nations today and we should pledge to make world guru again. Expand the scope of thinking and move ahead with determination power.

The Governor also called on the faculty members to carry on the legacy of our great scholars and also provide the students with knowledge, because without education is incomplete.

Governor Sir, Prof. Director of NIT Sikkim. Mahesh Chandra Govil, congratulating faculty members and staff that the institution has made remarkable progress despite opposite conditions and limited resources. He expressed confidence that the institution will soon move to its permanent campus Khamdong and make its identity in the world's best tech centers.

Regional MLA Mr. Rickshal Dorji along with Mr. G.P. Upadhyay, Acharya V.K. Tiwari, Chairman of NIT Sikkim Government Mandal Mr. Ramesh Kumar Saravagi, Member Mr. Ugen Chopel and Mr. Sajan Kumar Bansal, Director Prof. Mahesh Chandra Govil, faculty member, students, guardians, central and state government representatives and media personnel were present.

The Governor of Sikkim Shri Om Prakash Mathur attended the 8th Convocation Ceremony of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim as the chief guest. The convocation ceremony was held at the congregation hall Tathagata Tsal, Ravangla today.

During the convocation, the Governor conferred seven gold medals and degrees upon the graduating students, extended his best wishes to them, and wished them a bright and successful future. A total of 170 degrees were conferred in various disciplines viz; engineering, science, information technology, humanities, and social sciences with 133 undergraduate, 22 postgraduate and 8 Ph.D degrees.

In his convocation address, the Governor, Shri Mathur said that the ceremony is not merely an event to confer degrees, but a testament to the hard work and dedication of the students. He urged the graduates to utilize their knowledge in the service of society and nation-building. He emphasized that the true purpose of education is not only intellectual development but also character building, and that in today’s rapidly changing global environment, honesty, discipline, and ethical values have become even more significant.

The Governor called upon the students to always place the spirit of “Nation First” above everything else. He said that knowledge attains true value only when it contributes to the development of the country. Encouraging the graduates, the Governor said that youth will play the most crucial role in building a Viksit Bharat@ 2047 envisioned by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. He extended his best wishes to all graduating students for a successful future and for bringing pride to the nation and the state.

The Governor also appreciated the Director of NIT Sikkim, Prof. Mahesh Chandra Govil, along with the faculty and staff for their efforts and performance despite operating from temporary premises with limited resources.

On the occasion, an Honorary Doctorate was conferred upon Shri Sajan Kumar Bansal, Managing Director, Skipper Limited for his significant contributions.

The ceremony was attended by area MLA (Barfung constituency) Shri Rikshal Dorjee, former Director at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, Virendra Kumar Tewari, Chairman of the Board of Governors (BoG) NIT Sikkim, Shri Ramesh Kumar Saraogi, Board Members and other host of dignitaries.
