Hon'ble Governor of Sikkim Mr. Om Prakash Mathur formally visited the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom situated at Gangtok today.
On this occasion, the Governor had an in-depth observation of various handicrafts and handloom products displayed in the Directorate and interacted with the artisans working there. He gained detailed insight into the Directorate's ongoing activities, training programs, product exhibitions and traditional arts and skills of local artisans.
The Hon'ble Governor said that Sikkim's handicrafts and handloom products not only strengthen the state's rich cultural identity but also play a key role in strengthening the local economy.
The Hon'ble Governor emphasized that this art move forward generation to generation, keep traditions alive and provide meaningful employment opportunities to the youth. In this direction, the Governor directed the officials to continuous efforts to make these products skill development, market expansion and identify globally.
On this occasion, Secretary of Commerce and Industry Karma Utso and Director of Directorate Mr. Chhiring Topge Bhutia along with other senior officers were present. He gave detailed information to the Governor about the Directorate's achievements so far, various plans and upcoming proposed programs.
Mr. Governor encouraging students receiving training there to strive to bring their art to national and international platforms.
