Gangtok, August 4:
The Gangtok district edition of SIKKIM RISE (Realising Ideas, Shaping Entrepreneurship) commenced today with an orientation programme, bringing together aspiring entrepreneurs for the first day of the district-level entrepreneurship initiative under the Sikkim INSPIRES Programme. The initiative is being organised by the Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with the SEED Cell, under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), with IIM Calcutta Innovation Park (IIMCIP) as the Knowledge Partner.
The inaugural orientation was held in the presence of Shri Dipen Subba, OSD, Commerce & Industries Department and General Secretary, SEED Cell; Shri Hemant Khatiwara, Joint Secretary, Commerce & Industries Department; Shri Janak Chettri, General Manager, DIC Gangtok; Shri Sonam Palden Barfungpa, Principal, ATTC, Bardang; Shri Bikash Basnet, Joint Secretary, SEED Cell; Shri Tashi Ongdup Lepcha, Organisation Sectrary, SEED Cell, Ms Prathana Subba, District Coordinator, Gangtok, SEED Cell; and Shri Bikash Sharma, District Joint Coordinator, Gangtok, SEED Cell.
The orientation session was conducted by the IIMCIP Resource Team comprising Ram Kumar, Anasuya Mahanta, and Soujit Das, who guided participants on entrepreneurship, business model development, innovation, and effective pitch preparation. The interactive sessions equipped entrepreneurs with practical insights to refine their ideas ahead of the pitching round.
The district-level pitching competition will be held tomorrow, where participants will present their business ideas before an expert jury, with the most promising ventures progressing further in the SIKKIM RISE competition.
