Capacity Building Programme Held as part of 10-Day Special Awareness Campaign under SANKALP: DHEW

The Women, Child, Senior Citizen, and Divyangjan Welfare Department, Gyalshing District, successfully organized a capacity-building and awareness program focusing on the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act and the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act on 2nd September.
This initiative forms an integral part of the ongoing 10-Day Special Awareness Campaign under SANKALP: District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), aimed at empowering women and strengthening health awareness at the grassroots level.
The program was held at 6th Mile Middle Gyalshing, organized with the support of Mrs. Gita Chettri (President, SHG). An insightful session was conducted by Ms. Aita Hangma Subba, Advocate & Caseworker (OSC), who explained the provisions, objectives, and significance of the PCPNDT and MTP Acts, ensuring that beneficiaries are better equipped to promote safe, ethical, and informed health practices within their communities.
Mr. Paras Thapa, Gender Specialist, highlighted the initiatives and contributions of the Hub for Empowerment of Women (HEW), emphasizing the importance of women’s empowerment, legal literacy, and access to health rights. Other dignitaries present included Mr. Sanjay Hang Limboo (Gender Specialist) and Ms. Renuka Chettri (Inspector, Social Welfare Department).
The session witnessed active participation from ASHA workers, ANMs, AWWs, and AWHs, who engaged in interactive discussions and shared their on-ground experiences. The program significantly enhanced the knowledge and awareness of frontline health workers, reinforcing their critical role in safeguarding women’s health, promoting gender equality, and upholding legal rights at the community level.
