DHEW Conducts Baby Box Distribution Programme at Chongrang GPU Under BBBP Initiative
Chongrang GPU, Gyalshing District: The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), under the Women, Child, Senior Citizen and Divyangjan Welfare Department (WCSCDWD), successfully organized a Baby Box Distribution Programme at Chongrang Gram Panchayat Unit (GPU) under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative.
The programme was aimed at supporting new mothers and promoting proper care, nutrition, and healthy development of newborns. Baby boxes containing essential items for infant care and maternal well-being were distributed to eligible beneficiaries. The initiative also reinforced the importance of safe motherhood practices and early childhood care, while spreading awareness on the value, protection, and empowerment of the girl child.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from community members, frontline functionaries, and local stakeholders. The Panchayats of Chongrang GPU played a vital role in mobilizing beneficiaries and extending full cooperation to ensure the smooth and successful implementation of the programme.
In addition to the distribution of baby boxes, DHEW officials conducted an awareness session highlighting various government schemes and services available for new mothers and children, particularly those related to maternal health, nutrition, and child welfare. Special emphasis was laid on informing the community about key support helplines, including the Women Helpline (181) and the Child Helpline (1098), encouraging families to make use of these services whenever assistance or protection is needed.
Officials from DHEW stated that such initiatives serve a dual purpose - providing essential material support to new mothers while also strengthening awareness, community engagement, and access to government welfare measures. The programme reaffirmed the department’s continued commitment to safeguarding the rights, health, and dignity of women and children at the grassroots level.
