The Hon’ble Minister for Urban Development Department and Food and Civil Supplies
Department, Government of Sikkim, Shri Bhoj Raj Rai attended the National Review Meeting
convened by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOHUA) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on
19th
-20th May, 2026 under the chairmanship of Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister for
MOHUA. Also present were Shri Jitendra Singh Raje, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Urban
Development Department and Shri Jigme Wangchuk Bhutia, Special Secretary, Urban
Development Department. The UDD Ministers of all States were present in the meeting along with
the officers.
The review meeting took stock of the progress made by the States/UTs in implementation
of plans approved under Swachh Bharat Mission- Urban and also discussed the challenges faced
by some States towards achieving the mission goals. Some of the key States also shared their
experiences and best practices which could be adopted by others.
Speaking on the topic of visual cleanliness in Sikkim, Shri Bhoj Raj Rai highlighted the
strong community participation towards swachhata in the State. He also mentioned some of the
initiatives taken by the State Government to strengthen the waste management system.
The meeting also discussed at length the implementation of the new Solid Waste
Management Rules, 2026 with the participation of key ministries like the Ministry of Environment
and Forest, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation and the Ministry of Panchayati Raj
