“Sahayogi Sarathi – Nasha Mukt Sikkim”

under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan

Gangtok, October 29, 2025: An awareness programme on “Sahayogi Sarathi – Nasha Mukt Sikkim”, was convened today by the Motor Vehicles Division, Transport Department, duly inviting drivers from SNT and Central joint Action Committee, Local Taxi Drivers Association, Gangtok, at the conference hall of Yatayat Bhawan, Gangtok.

The programme was graced by Shri Dukpa Sherpa, Secretary, State Transport Authority, Shri Roshan Pradhan, RTO (Headquarters), Shri Karma Zimba Bhutia, Joint Director, Motor Vehicles Division and Shri Sanjok Thapa, SE (Mechanical), Sarooj Kharel JE (Operation) from SNT division.

The programme had the presence of representatives from the Social Welfare Department, including Shri Mahesh Sharma, Additional Director, Social Welfare Department; Shri Ram Kumar Tamang, Deputy Director, and Welfare Inspectors Ms Shristika Kharel and Susmita Kharel.

​The welcome address was delivered by Smt D M Mukhia, AMVI and Shri Pranaya Chettri, Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector, the resource person from the Transport Department gave a detailed power point presentation duly focusing on creating awareness among the driving community regarding the ill effects of substance abuse and inviting their active participation in promoting Nasa Mukt Sikkim, social responsibility, thereby ensuring Safer Roads.

​Shri Dukpa Sherpa, Secretary STA in his address, welcomed all the participants and requested all the participants to take full advantage of the programme so that the participants can learn and in-turn educate and desimate the knowledge among the fellow driving community.

Shri Mahesh Sharma, Additional Director, Social Welfare Department in his detailed presentation showcased the data of the status of substance abuse in the State of Sikkim and stressed on the impact the driving community can play in combatting the issue of substance abuse and promoting Nasa Mukt Abhiyan in Sikkim.

The President of the Central Joint Action Committee, Local Taxi Drivers Association Shri Karma Tshering Tamang, thanked the Transport Department for organizing this very important programme and pledged to fully support the noble initiative of the Nasa Mukt Sikkim. Deputy Director, Social Welfare Department, Shri Ram Kumar Tamang, administered the oath on Nasa Kukt Sikkim to the participants.

Shri Roshan pradhan, RTO (HQ), moderated the programme and thanked all for their active participation in the programme. He emphasized that drivers play a vital role in society as they are the eyes and ears of society. Drivers, being the lifeline of Transport and public mobility have a major role to play in the nobel initiative of the Government of Sikkim of a “Nasa Mukt Sikkim”. Their cooperation, commitment and active vigilance will be a major step in ensuring Safer Roads and building a healthier community.

The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by AMVI, Shri Anand Tamang.
