Sikkim Tourism Wins National Accolades for Sustainable and Responsible Tourism
Gangtok, Sikkim — Sikkim Tourism continues to earn national recognition and bring pride to the State through its outstanding achievements in sustainable and responsible tourism.
The prestigious Goechala–Dzongri Circuit has been awarded the Gold Award for Best Trekking Circuit at the Outlook Traveller’s Awards 2025. The honour was received by Shri TT Bhutia, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Civil Aviation and Industries Department, at a ceremony held at Hyatt Regency, New Delhi, on 22nd November 2025.
Adding to this achievement, Sikkim Tourism has also been conferred the Sanctuary Asia Award 2025 for Best State for Sustainable Wildlife Tourism. This esteemed recognition, presented by TOFT Wildlife and Nature Tourism in partnership with the Sanctuary Nature Foundation, acknowledges Sikkim’s exemplary commitment to conservation-led, community-driven and responsible tourism practices. The award was received on behalf of the State by Shri Norgay Lachungpa, Chairperson, Tourism & Civil Aviation Department, on 12th December 2025.
These national honours reflect the collective efforts of the State Government, local communities and tourism stakeholders, reaffirming Sikkim’s position as a leading destination for sustainable, adventure, inclusive and wildlife tourism in India.
On the auspicious occasion of the Holy Denzong Guenkyi Lhopoi Gaton Celebration, the prestigious awards were formally handed over to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim in a ceremonial programme by Shri TT Bhutia, Hon’ble Minister, Shri C.S. Rao, Additional Chief Secretary, Shri Norgay Lachungpa, Chairperson, Mrs. Hondala Gyaltsen, Secretary, and Shri Neeraj Pradhan, PCE-cum-Secretary, Tourism & Civil Aviation Department.
The Government of Sikkim reiterates its commitment to promoting responsible tourism while preserving the State’s rich natural and cultural heritage.
