Gangtok Fire Station
Day 4 of Fire Service Week (17/04/2026)
Under the direction of Director, Fire Service Shri Khilburna Gurung (IGP, SPS) and FSO Bishal Rai, Gangtok Fire Station conducted a Fire Safety and Awareness Programme at Nandok Secondary School.
The school was specifically selected for this programme as mock drills are usually conducted within or near town areas, and schools located on the outskirts often do not get adequate exposure to fire safety training.
A crew led by SFO Sonam Pintso Bhutia and SFO Juwel Lagoon Biswakarma, along with personnel from Gangtok Fire Station, was deployed for the programme. The session focused on equipping students and staff with practical life-saving skills. Key topics covered included:
I. Practical Demonstrations: Hands-on training on the P.A.S.S. method (Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep) for operating fire extinguishers.
II. Evacuation Protocols: Guidance on orderly evacuation drills and identifying emergency exits.
III. Fire Prevention: Identifying electrical hazards and common fire triggers within a school environment.
IV. Survival Techniques: Instruction on the "Stop, Drop, and Roll" manoeuvre and "Crawl Low" smoke escape tactics.
The programme was highly interactive and well-received by the school administration.
