80th Independence Day Open Futsal Tournament Held at Phoenix Futsal Arena, Gangtok
Gangtok, August 15, 2026: The 80th Independence Day Open Futsal Tournament 2026 was celebrated with great enthusiasm and sporting spirit at Phoenix Futsal Arena, Tadong, Gangtok, on the occasion of Independence Day.
Organised by the Youths of 27 Gangtok, the tournament brought together football enthusiasts and players in a celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork and healthy competition.
The final match of the tournament was graced by Hon’ble SIMFED Chairman Shri Tenzing Dorjee Bhutia as the Chief Guest. His presence added significance to the concluding event and encouraged the participating players and organisers.
The tournament reflected the spirit of Independence Day by promoting unity, discipline, fitness and a positive sporting culture among the youth. The organisers expressed their commitment to encouraging young people through sports and community activities.
The event was conducted under the visionary leadership and direction of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang, with the objective of strengthening youth participation and promoting sports at the grassroots level.
The Youths of 27 Gangtok extended their gratitude to the Chief Guest, participating teams, supporters and everyone who contributed to the successful conduct of the tournament.
