District Level Coordination Meeting of SHGs in Soreng District.
Soreng, 10 September 2026: A District Level Coordination Meeting in preparation for the forthcoming SHG Bharosa Sammelan was held at the Rurban Complex Hall, Soreng, with the participation of the District Chairperson, representatives from various departments, OSD to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, DPM, BPMs, Block Development Societies (BDS), SHG Federations and other officials.
The meeting highlighted the significant progress of Self Help Groups (SHGs) in Soreng District, comprising 1,032 active SHGs with approximately 9,700 members across six blocks. The contribution of SHGs towards women’s empowerment, livelihood generation and community development was acknowledged.
Various livelihood activities undertaken by SHGs, including turmeric and pickle production, basket and bouquet making, food processing and homestay enterprises, were also reviewed, showcasing the growing entrepreneurial potential of rural women.
Discussions on the proposed SHG Bharosa Sammelan focused on strengthening SHG institutions, promoting SHG products through fairs, exhibitions and SHG Bazaars, enhancing livelihood activities, capacity building, machinery and equipment support, and improved market linkages. The meeting also deliberated on financial assistance and eligibility criteria for SHGs under the proposed programme, with emphasis on transparency, proper documentation and regular monitoring.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to further strengthen SHG institutions, expand livelihood opportunities and promote the socio-economic empowerment of women across Soreng District
