Namchi, 21st May : Public Awareness and Sensitization Programme on the ban on Single-Use Plastic (SUP) along with Hands-on Training on Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, subsequent amendments, and the Online Reporting Mechanism was organized on Thursday, 21st May 2026, at the Conference Hall of Namchi District Zilla Panchayat (NDZP). The programme was organized by the Office of the ADC (Development), Namchi, in collaboration with Namchi District Zilla Panchayat.

The programme was chaired by Shri Bikash Tamang, Zilla Upa-Adhakshya, Namchi District Zilla Panchayat. The meeting was attended by Dr. C.P. Rai, ADC (Development), Namchi; District Planning Officer (NDZP); Deputy Director (PRI), Namchi; officials from the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB); Block Coordinators SBM-G; PDAs and PAAs under Namchi Division; staff from various line departments; and other dignitaries.

During the sensitization session, resource persons highlighted the growing environmental concerns caused by single-use plastics and emphasized the importance of adopting sustainable alternatives and responsible waste disposal practices. The provisions of the Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016, along with its subsequent amendments, were explained in detail to ensure better understanding and effective implementation at the grassroots level.

The hands-on training session on plastic waste characterization and the online reporting mechanism provided participants with practical knowledge regarding segregation, data collection, reporting procedures, and monitoring systems related to plastic waste management.

The organisers reiterated the importance of collective efforts from all stakeholders in ensuring effective plastic waste management and promoting a cleaner, greener, and environmentally responsible society.

The programme concluded with an interactive session followed by a vote of thanks.
