Livestock Assistants Complete One-Year Technical Course; Hon'ble Minister Hands Over Certificates and Posting Orders
Gangtok, 30 July 2026: The Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Department, Government of Sikkim, successfully conducted the Valedictory Function for the One-Year Technical Course for Livestock Assistants on 30 July 2026.
The programme was graced by the Hon'ble Minister, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Department, Government of Sikkim, Shri Puran Kumar Gurung, as the Chief Guest. The function was attended by the Principal Director-cum-Secretary, Principal Directors, Director, Additional Directors, Joint Directors, Deputy Directors, Deputy Secretary, Under Secretary, Veterinary Officers, and other officers and officials of the Department.
The newly trained Livestock Assistants successfully completed a nine-month intensive training programme at the College of Veterinary Science, Jalukie, Nagaland, followed by a three-month internship programme across various institutions of the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Department in Sikkim. Coordinated by the Training and Extension Cell, the internship provided comprehensive practical exposure to clinical veterinary services, departmental livestock farms, Gaushalas, the Sikkim Livestock Development Board (SLDB), SARAH, the State Veterinary Hospital-cum-Referral Centre (SVH & RC), and the State Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (SADDL).
The entire training programme was fully funded by the Government of Sikkim under the State Budget for the financial year 2025–26, reflecting the State Government's commitment to strengthening veterinary and livestock extension services through capacity building.
During the ceremony, all trainees were presented with Course Completion Certificates and Posting Orders. They also received a specially prepared field kit comprising a scrub top set, a waterproof clinical thermometer, and a Technical Manual for Field Functionaries, developed by the Training and Extension Cell to support efficient and effective field service delivery.
In his address, Hon'ble Minister Shri Puran Kumar Gurung congratulated the Livestock Assistants on the successful completion of their training and urged them to work with dedication, sincerity, and professionalism for the welfare of livestock farmers across the State. He emphasized their vital role in improving animal health, enhancing livestock productivity, and strengthening the rural economy through quality veterinary and extension services.
The Hon'ble Minister also appreciated the initiatives undertaken by the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services Department in strengthening veterinary infrastructure, human resource development, and extension services for the benefit of the farming community.
On the occasion, the Sikkim State Veterinary Association felicitated Hon'ble Minister Shri Puran Kumar Gurung in recognition of his unwavering support and significant contributions towards the welfare of the veterinary fraternity and the advancement of the veterinary profession in the State.
The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks, marking the successful completion of the training programme and the induction of a new batch of Livestock Assistants into the State's veterinary service.
