STNM Hospital Conducts Mock Drill to Strengthen Preparedness for Infectious Disease Emergencies
As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency preparedness and response capabilities, STNM Hospital, Sochakgang, conducted a mock drill on 31st May 2026 to assess the readiness of healthcare personnel and systems in managing a suspected case of a highly infectious disease.
The exercise simulated a patient presenting with fever, vomiting, and a travel/contact history suggestive of exposure to a viral haemorrhagic fever. Upon arrival, the patient was screened at the triage area, identified as a suspected case, and promptly shifted to the designated isolation facility in accordance with established protocols.
The drill evaluated key aspects of emergency response, including patient screening and isolation, use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), infection prevention and control measures, and coordination among various departments.
Healthcare workers demonstrated appropriate donning and doffing procedures and effective communication throughout the exercise.
Following the simulation, a debriefing session was held in the Office of the Medical Superintendent, where observations and gaps identified during the exercise were reviewed and discussed with officials and staff members. Recommendations were made to further strengthen preparedness measures and enhance response capacity for public health emergencies.
The exercise provided an opportunity to assess existing protocols, identify areas for improvement, and reinforce the hospital's commitment to ensuring a timely and effective response to infectious disease threats. The simulated scenario was based on the management of a suspected Ebola Virus Disease case as part of preparedness planning and capacity-building efforts.
