Felicitating World Skills Regional Qualifiers at Maghe Sankranti Mela 2026, Jorethang

Namchi, 16 January : On the auspicious occasion of Maghe Sankranti Mela 2026 held at Jorethang, the State Institute of Capacity Building (SICB) under the Skill Development Department, Government of Sikkim, felicitated the participants who qualified for the World Skills Competition – Regional Level.

The felicitation ceremony was graced by the august presence of His Excellency, the Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, as the Chief Guest. In this dignified gathering, the Honourable Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), formally presented Medals and Certificates of Merit to the qualified participants, acknowledging their outstanding skills, dedication, and achievements.

The State Institute of Capacity Building (SICB) successfully conducted the District Level and State Level India Skills Competition 2025 across multiple locations in the state. The India Skills Competition, a biennial national initiative of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, aims to identify, nurture, and celebrate the skills of young Indians while aligning national standards with global benchmarks. As the State Skill Development Mission (SSDM), SICB played a pivotal role in organizing and executing these competitions in Sikkim.

This year, the competitions were conducted across four key sectors:

1. Beauty Therapy

2. Cookery

3. Health Care

4. Cloud Computing

An impressive 503 participants registered across these sectors following an extensive screening process carried out at schools, colleges, and training institutes throughout the state. This overwhelming participation marks a significant milestone and reflects the growing strength of Sikkim’s skill development ecosystem.

The State Level winners will represent Sikkim at the Regional Rounds. Successful candidates at the regional level will advance to the National Level, and the national winners will go on to represent India at the World Skills International Competition 2026, scheduled to be held in Shanghai, China, in September 2026.

The top three performers from each category who qualified for the Regional Round and were felicitated include:

• Kerin Subba- PM Shri Govt. Sr. Sec. School,Jorethang.

• Rahul Chettri- ICFAI University.

• Dormit Lepcha- GITI Gyalshing.

• Anish Subba- ABM

• Saurav Rai- Madhavi Skills University.

• Hissay Bhutia- Medhavi Skills University.

• Ram Bahadur Tirwa- Madhavi Skills University

• Pritam Kumar Bhagat- Medhavi Skills University.

• Muskan Lamichaney- Medhavi Skills University.

•Yangpoo- Medhavi Skills University.

Two participants Nimkit Lepcha- (Bermiok Sr. Sec. School) and Sushma Limboo( self employed) could not be present to receive the felicitation as they are currently attending a boot camp for the Regional Level competitions.

All the State Level winners will undergo intensive training-cum-workshops to prepare them for the Regional, National, and International rounds. These programmes are designed to further enhance their technical skills, confidence, and global competitiveness.

The event was also graced by the presence of Honourable Cabinet Ministers, senior officials, and other distinguished dignitaries.

With warmth, enthusiasm, and an unwavering belief in the potential of Sikkim’s youth, the State Institute of Capacity Building (SICB), Karfectar, under the Skill Development Department, Government of Sikkim, continues to pave the way towards a skilled, empowered, and globally competitive Sikkim.
