SLBC Sikkim Launches “Unclaimed Assets and Deposits” Programme at Gangtok
Gangtok, 14 November 2025:
The State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) Sikkim successfully launched the “Unclaimed Assets and Deposits” programme today at local hotel Gangtok. The initiative aims to support citizens in identifying and claiming their unclaimed financial assets through coordinated efforts of all banks operating in the state.
The programme was inaugurated in the distinguished presence of Sri T. Jamang, Regional Director, RBI, Gangtok, who graced the event as the Chief Guest. Madam Tshering Palden Bhutia, Hon’ble Deputy Mayor, Gangtok Municipal Corporation, attended as the Guest of Honour. Sri Ajay Kumar Sinha, General Manager, NABARD, and Sri Mahendra Pradhan, Director (Finance), Government of Sikkim, participated as Special Guests. The event was also graced by several Hon’ble Councillors of the Gangtok Municipal Corporation, adding further significance to the programme.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Sri Gopal Lama, AGM, SLBC Sikkim, followed by insightful remarks and guidance from all dignitaries on the dais.
Delivering the keynote address, the Regional Director, RBI, urged all banks to organise camps and operate in campaign mode to maximise outreach and ensure timely settlement of unclaimed deposits. The Hon’ble Deputy Mayor encouraged banks to conduct ward-level camps to make the process more accessible for citizens and help them easily identify and claim their rightful dues.
The GM, NABARD, stressed on the importance of collective responsibility among all financial institutions to ensure that no legitimate funds remain unclaimed in the state. The Director (Finance) advised all banks to share details of DEAF accounts with councillors to facilitate easier identification of potential beneficiaries.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Sri Kallol Bhattacharya, CM, SLBC with a strong reaffirmation of commitment from SLBC Sikkim and all participating banks to work in close coordination for the successful implementation of this important initiative across the state.
