SYA extends warm welcome for medal winning Karatekas at 69th School National Games 2025
The Sports & Youth Affairs Department on 23rd December, 2025 arranged a reception programme at Rangpo Tourism Guest House for the Karatekas who brought laurels to the State by winning medals at the 69th School National Games 2025 held from 15th to 19th December 2025 at Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The reception programme was arranged with an objective to popularise the value of the School National Games among the school children of Sikkim.
Muskan Tamang, managed to win bronze medal in the 46 kg weight category (under-14 Girls). This is the first medal for the year 2025 at National School Games under the banner of the Department. The technical team assisted by Sensei Puran Subba as Nodal Officer, Sensei Hem Kumari Rai as Team Coach, and Sensei Prosenjit Chakraborty as Team Manager.
The department of SYA had sent a total of 14 Karatekas and 3 officials for the prestigious National Schools Games 2025. Earlier, the department had sent the school children at School National Games in Boxing in November, 2025 at Arunachal Pradesh.
After a long gap, the department had organised the first ever State level School Games in the month of November, which was a platform to select athletes for the School National Games. The department also has plans to send teams from other sports disciplines to compete at the School National Games before the financial year 2025.
The reception programme was attended by Jigmee Y Lepcha, Joint Director Coaching, Anoj Pradhan, Boxing Coach, Bijay Gurung Taekwondo Coach, R.B. Subba, Athletic Coach. The members of Sikkim Karate Association especially Binam Gurung, joint secretary, also joined the reception program along with the parents of the athletes.
