District Level School Games 2026 Officially Inaugurated in Soreng, Sikkim
SORENG, SIKKIM — September 23, 2026 — The Sports & Youth Affairs Department (SYAD), Soreng District, officially inaugurated the two-day District Level School Games 2026 today at the Indoor Gymnasium Hall and Stadium in Soreng. The annual event brings together student-athletes, departmental officials, and local dignitaries to foster grassroots youth sports development across the district.
Inaugural Ceremony & Key Guests
The event commenced with traditional ceremonial offerings of khadas to the chief guests and dignitaries, followed by the lighting of the lamp and the national anthem.
Mrs. Mamita Gurung, Deputy Director/Head of Office, SYAD Soreng, delivered the welcome address and provided an overview of the sports competitions scheduled over the two days.

Chief Guest: Shri Mani Kumar Rai, OSD to the Hon’ble MLA (Daramdin Constituency)
Special Guests: Ms. Bimala Subba (Hon’ble Panchayat President) and Panchayat Members of Timburbong GPU

Mr. M.K. Khewa, Joint Director, Education Department
Mr. Roshan Sharma, MEO Soreng
Mr. Nav Raj Sharma, President, Soreng District Athletics Association
Support Personnel: Physical Education Teachers (PETs), Physical Education Instructors (PEIs), escort teachers, officers , coaches, and staff SYAD alongside deployed teams from the Health Department and Police Department.
Day 1 Highlights & Events
Day 1 focused primarily on Under-17 & under-19 boys & girls selection trials and final competitions across four core athletic disciplines:
Athletics
Boxing
Table Tennis
Karate
The high-performing student-athletes from today's events secured spots to represent Soreng District at the upcoming state-level competitions. Following the trials, medals and certificates were distributed to the top performers.
The opening day concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Shri D.B. Subba, Assistant Director, SYAD Soreng.
