Two-Day Training Programme Strengthens Large Cardamom Farming in Dzongu, Mangan District, Sikkim
Over 150 farmers trained under EXIM Bank’s GRID Programme with expert guidance from Spices Board (KVK and Agriculture and horticulture departments) and allied institutions
A two-day training programme for more than 150 farmers of associated with the Organic Valley FPO Cooperative Society Ltd., Mangan, was successfully organized by Spices Board supported and sponsored by the of EXIM Bank under the EXIM Bank’s Grassroots Initiatives for Development (GRID) Programme.
The programme was conducted for 2 days viz., day 1 at Community Hall, Gor for Lum Gor Sangtok GPU, Dzongu, and day 2 at the Knowledge Sharing Centre (DST STI Hub), Sudur, Hee-Gyathang, Dzongu for Hee-Gyathang GPU.
The sessions commenced with a briefing on objective of the training programme by Dr. Puvichonu Rhutso, Assistant Director, Spices Board, Mangan, followed by a special address from the Panchayat President, Lum-Gor-Sangtok GPU, Dzongu, North Sikkim. The event was attended by Panchayat members and dignitaries Mr. Ginesh Basnet, Head Scientist, KVK Mangan District underscoring strong community and institutional support for large cardamom farmers.
Expert Resource Persons included Dr. S. S. Bora, Scientist C, Indian Cardamom Research Institute (ICRI), Regional Research Station (RRS), Tadong, Mr. Adarsh Rai, Agriculture Development Officer, Agriculture Department, Mangan District, Mrs. Meena Pradhan, SMS, Agriculture Extension, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Mangan District.
They trained farmers on production technology, soil health management, pest and disease control, vermicomposting, and post-harvest value addition. The programme also featured an interaction and feedback session with farmers, followed by the distribution of large cardamom inputs to shareholders of the Organic Valley FPO.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Shri Samroo Ugen Palzor Lepcha, President, Organic Valley FPO Pvt. Ltd., Mangan, North Sikkim.
This initiative reflects the commitment of EXIM Bank, Spices Board, and Organic Valley FPO to empower farmers with modern agricultural practices, ensuring the sustainable growth and production of large cardamom cultivation in the region.
