Director, Senior Officers of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly Secretariat attended the second day of Plenary Session of the 22nd Annual Conference of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, India Region Zone III at Assembly Hall of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on 11th November, 2025.
The second day of the Conference also deliberated on the topic “ Climate Change-In the light of recent cloudburst and landslides in some North East Region.”
Shri Mingma Norbu Sherpa Hon’ble Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, while participating in the deliberation highlighted that the Legislators and policy makers must resolve to reduce carbon footprint by transitioning to renewable energy sources, increasing energy efficiency, and adopting sustainable land use practices. He also urged for disaster preparedness and early warning systems to protect communities from the impacts of climate change.
Hon’ble Speaker, Sikkim, further opined for adoption of climate-resilient infrastructure design of roads, bridges, drainage systems in hilly areas.
He also furthermore highlighted the climate resilient, green environment and sustainable development initiative taken up by the Government of Sikkim under the able leadership of Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay), Hon’ble Chief Minister.
The Hon’ble delegates also participated in the plantation drive at the Botanical Garden, premises of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly to commemorate the 22nd Annual CPA India Region Zone III Conference.
Before the conclusion of the conference, the House adopted 9 (nine) Resolutions reaffirming the commitment to Parliamentary Democracy, inclusive development and regional cooperation and
also observed 2 minutes of silence on the sudden demise of incumbent Member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
The 22nd Annual Conference of CPA India Region Zone III at Nagaland Legislative Assembly concluded with Closing Remark by Shri Harivansh Hon’ble Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha and Shri K.G. Kenye Hon’ble Minister, Parliamentary Affairs.
The Words of Gratitude was also proposed by Shri Thomas A. Sangma Hon’ble Speaker, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly also the Vice Chairman, CPA India Region Zone-III and Shri S. Toiho Yeptho Hon’ble Deputy Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
