Sikkim State Civil Service Officers’ Association Announces Plantation Drive under Connect Earth – Sikkim Programme

Gangtok, August 07:

The Sikkim State Civil Service Officers’ Association (SSCSOA) will initiate a plantation drive of avocado saplings and nakima plants (tupistra nutans) as part of the Connect Earth – Sikkim initiative. The event is scheduled for August 9, 2025, at Samsing, Pakyong, on designated land allocated by the Government of Sikkim.

Connect Earth-Sikkim is an initiative championed, endorsed and mentored by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) aimed at rejuvenating barren land and promoting sustainable agricultural practices by fostering widespread community participation and elevate the dignity of farming. The program seeks to strengthen Sikkim’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable rural development.

Through this plantation drive, the SSCSOA reaffirms its dedication to this transformative vision, emphasizing the importance of agriculture and traditional farming practices cherished in rural Sikkim. The initiative also aims to reconnect civil service officers with nature, enabling them to inspire broader societal engagement in sustainable farming and environmental conservation.

The event will bring together SSCSOA members, officials from various Pakyong offices, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and Panchayat representatives. The Association extends its heartfelt gratitude to Shri Robin Seva, Additional District Collector (Development), Pakyong, and Coordinator of the Connect Earth – Sikkim Mission, for his coordination in organizing this program.

The SSCSOA warmly invites individuals, officials, and community members to join their Phase-I initiative in this on August 9, 2025, to contribute to a greener, more sustainable Sikkim.
