Shri Mingma Norbu Sherpa Hon’ble Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly accompanied by Shri Lalit Kumar Gurung, Secretary, Sikkim Legislative Assembly attended the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) which was inaugurated today by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan, Parliament House Complex, New Delhi.
The Conference was addressed by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The welcome remarks was presented by Shri Harivansh, Hon’ble Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha followed by remarks by Dr. Tulia Ackson ,President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and Shri Christopher Kalila, Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. Shri Om Birla Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha also the Chairperson for 28th CSPOC also addressed his remarks on the conference.
The conference will deliberate on contemporary parliamentary issues, including the role of Presiding Officers in strengthening democratic institutions, the use of artificial intelligence in parliamentary functioning, the impact of social media on Members of Parliament, and innovative ways to enhance citizen participation beyond voting.
The conference brings together 61 Speakers and Presiding Officers from 42 Commonwealth countries and four semi-autonomous legislatures.
