Sikkim Housing and Development Board Holds Important Board Meeting to Advance Planned Housing Initiative
Gangtok, 9 September 2026:
The Sikkim Housing and Development Board (SHDB) under the Chairmanship of Shri. Karma Tashi Bhutia convened an important Board Meeting today to deliberate on key initiatives aimed at strengthening planned housing infrastructure and addressing the growing demand for quality residential accommodation in the State.
Major agenda of the meeting was the proposed construction of residential apartments at 6th Mile, Tadong, a significant housing initiative envisaged to provide safe, planned and quality housing to the people of Sikkim.
The Secretary Shri. Rajesh Pradhan presented the plan proposal to the Board.The Board discussed the proposed development in
detail, including the project’s planning, financial viability,construction strategy and implementation framework.The proposed housing project is expected to contribute not only towards meeting the increasing demand for organised residential
accommodation but also towards promoting more systematic and sustainable urban development in and around Gangtok.
The Board emphasised that the initiative should be guided by the principles of affordability, quality, sustainability and long-term financial viability. The project is intended to be an important step towards building better neighbourhood, strengthening housing
infrastructure, creating a more planned and resilient urban future for Sikkim and is also being viewed as an important opportunity to
revitalise and strengthen the institutional and financial capacity of
the Sikkim Housing and Development Board
