Dated: 14th April, 2026
Sikkim Fire and Emergency Service solemnly observed Fire Service Martyr’s Day on 14th April, 2026, in honour of the brave firefighters who laid down their lives in the line of duty. This day holds historical significance as it marks the anniversary of the tragic Bombay Dock Explosion of 1944, one of the most devastating fire disasters in India, where numerous fire personnel lost their lives while combating the massive fire and explosions. Their courage and sacrifice continue to inspire the fire service fraternity across the nation.
On this occasion, a two-minute silence was observed at Fire Headquarters and all Fire Stations across the State as a mark of respect and remembrance to the fallen heroes, followed by singing of the Fire Anthem.
Further, SFES has commenced the observance of Fire Service Week 2026 (14th to 21st April), with the theme: “Safe School, Safe Hospital & Fire Safety Aware Society.”
The week-long programme including fire safety drills and demonstrations will focus on enhancing fire safety awareness in schools, healthcare institutions, and community gathering areas. Sports events shall also be organized by all units, aligned with Fit India Movement.
Sikkim Fire and Emergency Service reiterates its commitment to public safety and calls upon citizens to actively participate in fire safety awareness initiatives for building a safer and more resilient society.
