Team Sikkim Departs for 37th East Zone Junior Athletics Championships 2026 in Patna
Gangtok, 20 September 2026:
Team Sikkim, fielded by the Sikkim Athletics Association (SAA), left for the 37th East Zone Junior Athletics Championships 2026, to be held at the Patliputra Sports Complex, Kankarbagh, Patna, Bihar, from 22 to 24 September 2026.
The 18-member contingent comprises of 15 athletes and 3 officials. The team will be led by Manager Hishey Tenzing Bhutia, along with Coaches Chandramaya Das and R.B. Subba.
The championship, organised by the Bihar Athletics Association under the aegis of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), will see junior athletes from across the East Zone compete in the Under-14, Under-16, Under-18, and Under-20 age categories, across track, field, and combined events.
Team Sikkim's 15-athlete squad was finalised through a formal Selection Committee process and will compete in 27 individual and relay event entries. The squad includes three medallists from last year's 36th East Zone Championships in Ranchi — Sabina Rai (Gold, 3000m Steeplechase, Under 20 Women), Phurba Hissey Sherpa (Gold, 1000m, Under 18 Boys), and Rewa Baraily (Bronze, Heptathlon, Under 18 Girls) — who return with valuable competitive experience.
