SCERT Sikkim conducts Valedictory Function of the Six-Day Induction Training Programme

The valedictory function of the six-day Induction Training Programme for newly appointed Probationary Primary Teachers was held today at SCERT Auditorium marking the successful conclusion of a training that started on 24th August 2026. The programme which was organised by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), had the participation of 116 newly appointed teachers from the four districts - Gangtok, Mangan, Pakyong and Soreng.
While Shri Raju Basnet, Hon'ble Minister of Education, Sports and Law and Parliamentary Affairs, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, the programme also had the presence of Ms. Tsering Kee Chingapa, Director, School Education, Dr. Shanti Ram Adhikari, Director, SCERT, and the entire SCERT Family including Officials, Faculty, Heads of Schools, Support Staff and Members of the State Resource Group of CM SNP Programme.
Addressing the newly inducted teachers, the Hon'ble Minister spoke of the role of teachers in shaping the future of the State. He observed that the responsibility placed in the hands of a primary teacher extends well beyond the classroom, as the earliest years of schooling lay the foundation on which a child's entire educational journey rests. He urged the young teachers to carry forward into their schools the spirit and the professional commitment they had demonstrated over the six days of training. Tsering Kee Chingapa, Director, School Education also addressed the participants and motivated them sharing her experience as a teacher and head of school.
The welcome speech was delivered by Ms. Tshering Lhamu Bhutia, Additional Director, SCERT while the detail report of the programme was presented by N B Chettri Deputy Director, SCERT.
Highlights of the Six-Day Training
The induction training was designed to familiarise the newly appointed teachers with the key academic initiatives, pedagogical approaches and policy frameworks, and assessment practices currently guiding elementary education in Sikkim. Key highlights of the six – day are as follows :
i. A full-day session was devoted to the Language and Literacy Programme (LLP)
ii. A half-day training was conducted on Vidya Pravesh, the school readiness module for children entering Grade I.
iii. Two days were completely devoted on the pedagogical processes of Chief Minister's Special Numeracy Programme (CM-SNP), which forms a central pillar of the State's foundational numeracy initiatives.
In addition, sessions were conducted on the Holistic Progress Card, Continuous Professional Development, DIKSHA, PM e-Vidya and the National Education Policy 2020, giving the participants a rounded understanding of assessment practices, digital learning resources and the policy directions that inform their work. These sessions were conducted by Resource persons from SCERT namely Tshering Lhamu Bhutia, Rajiv Philip, Larissa Lepcha, Ranju Pradhan, Dr Chandrani Chettri, Dikila Lepcha, Lensong Lepcha, Pema Palden, Nikita Gurung, Dhiraj Sharma, Roshni Sharma, Nikita Gurung and SRG members of CM SNP Program. Technical support to the Resource Persons were provided by Ranu Rai and Gopal Dhungel.
School Visits and Classroom Observation
On the concluding day, the participants were divided into two groups and taken in two batches to Deorali Girls' Senior Secondary School and Government Modern Senior Secondary School to observe CM-SNP and LLP classes in progress. The visits gave the newly inducted teachers a first-hand view of the approaches developed by practising teachers to conduct activity-based classes, and served as a practical complement to the sessions held at the training venue. The exposure was widely appreciated by the participants as one of the most useful components of the programme.
Felicitation and Distribution of Certificates
The valedictory function also felicitated, with certificates, the State Resource Group (SRG) members of the Chief Minister's Special Numeracy Programme (CM-SNP) in recognition of their contribution to the programme. Those felicitated were:

• Ms. Chung Chung Lepcha, Government Middle Syari Primary School
• Ms. Nilam Gurung, PM SHRI Government Rangpo Mining Senior Secondary School
• Mr. Bipan Pradhan, Government Luing Senior Secondary School
All 116 participants were presented certificates by the Hon'ble Minister on completion of the six-day induction training.
Feedback and Closing
One participant teacher from each of the four districts shared feedback on the six-day training, reflecting on the sessions they found most valuable and on how they intend to apply the learning in their own classrooms.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Rajiv Philip and Mr. Naren Chettri, Deputy Directors, SCERT, under the guidance of Director SCERT, Dr. Shanti Ram Adhikari whose leadership and support throughout the six days enabled the smooth conduct of the training. The valedictory function which was conducted by Ms. Karma Doma Kaleon, Deputy Director, SCERT, concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Dikila Dolkar, Head Mistress attached to SCERT.
