Rural Development Department Holds Coordination Meeting in Namchi District

Namchi, 7 July:

Rural Development Department (RDD), Government of Sikkim, convened a coordination meeting for Namchi District chaired by Shri Anil Raj Rai, Secretary, RDD, at the Conference Hall, NDZP. The meeting was attended by senior officials including Shri Sukbir Subba, Principal Chief Engineer; Smt. Neelam Rai, Chief Engineer; Mr. Khagendra Sharma, Additional Chief Engineer (S/W); Shri Sanjeev Kr. Rajalim, Superintending Engineer (S/W); Smt. Gaki Bhutia, Divisional Engineer NDZP;Divisional Engineer-PMGSY; Assistant Engineers from BACs and PMGSY Sub Divisions; and Junior Engineers of RDD, Namchi District.

The meeting reviewed progress on key infrastructure works including Jal Jeevan Mission water supply projects, suspension and steel foot bridges, Gram Panchayat Bhawans, Block Administrative Centres, PMGSY roads, and other state funded schemes. The Secretary emphasized documenting community driven good practices under JJM, ensuring immediate restoration during emergencies, and conducting Jal Arpan Diwas for completed water supply projects.

The Principal Chief Engineer, Shri Sukbir Subba, highlighted important matters such as incorporating technical inputs in infrastructure design and ensuring forest clearance requirements for PMGSY roads. He directed field engineers to complete PMGSY I schemes at the earliest and stressed adherence to proper tendering, structural vetting, and design specifications. He also underlined the importance of proper land acquisition, road geometrics, and defect liability periods in contractual works.

The meeting further underscored training of SHG members in field testing kits (Water), deployment of BFEs for water supply regulation, and effective use of VBGRAMG funds for water storage infrastructure. The Secretary, Shri Anil Raj Rai, emphasized the role of District Technical Units (DTUs) in ensuring sustainability of JJM schemes and called for teamwork and meticulous implementation of departmental guidelines.
