Report on 8th Poshan Pakhwada Programme

The 8th Poshan Pakhwada programme was successfully organized on 20th April 2026 by the Rabdang Rural Project under the Women, Child, Senior Citizen & Divyangjan Welfare Department, in coordination with Simick Lingzey Health and Wellness Centre, Health & Family Welfare Department, at Chukum Lingam ICDS Centre.
The theme for Poshan Pakhwada 2026 was:
“Maximizing Brain Development in the First Six Years of Life.”
The programme was graced by Smt. Lhakit Lepcha, Tasha Ward Panchayat, as the Chief Guest.
Smt. Lhamit Lepcha, CDPO Rabdang, highlighted the significance of Poshan Pakhwada, a nationwide 15-day campaign observed from April 9 to April 23 across India. She elaborated on key focus areas such as:
* Early stimulation for brain development (0–3 years)
* Play-based education in early years (3–6 years)
* Role of parents and community in minimizing screen time
Smt. Sumira Sharma, Nutrition Educator, emphasized the importance of a balanced diet and proper nutrition. She highlighted exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, stating that breast milk provides all essential nutrients required for a child’s growth, along with the importance of Poustik Aahar.
Mr. Sangay Tamang, District Coordinator, Poshan Abhiyaan, spoke about the role of parents and the community in minimizing screen time and supporting brain development activities for children aged 0–6 years.
Mr. Tashi Wangdi Bhutia, Multi-Purpose Health Worker (MPHW), addressed the gathering on the importance of immunization and antenatal care (ANC). He stressed the benefits of vaccines such as DPT and Pentavalent in protecting children from serious diseases. He also highlighted the need for vitamin supplementation up to five years of age to boost immunity and prevent infections.
The Chief Guest, Smt. Lhakit Lepcha, appreciated the organizers for conducting an informative and meaningful programme. She also commended the efforts of ASHA and Anganwadi workers for their dedication and service to the community.
During the event, Anganwadi Workers from Sang and Singtam-II zones displayed various nutritious recipes to promote healthy eating habits among the local community.
As part of the programme, the following services were conducted:
* Growth monitoring
* Health check-ups
* Immunization
* Follow-up of Severely Acute Malnourished (SAM) beneficiaries
The programme was attended by:
* Sonamit Lepcha, Block Coordinator, ICDS
* Smt. Anjana Subba, Supervisor, ICDS Sang Zone
* Health Department staff
* ICDS officials
* Anganwadi Workers (AWWs)
* ASHA workers from the Health and Wellness Centre
* Lactating and nursing mothers with their children
* Adolescent boys and girls
* Male participants and elderly community members
The programme concluded successfully with active participation from all stakeholders, promoting awareness on nutrition and early childhood development.
