Sikkimese Para Athletes express heartfelt gratitude to the Women, Child, Senior Citizen & Divyangjan Welfare Department for the meaningful recognition on World Disabled Day 2025
The Department of Women, Child, Senior Citizen & Divyangjan Welfare organized a felicitation ceremony to honor Sikkim’s para-athletes who returned with remarkable achievements from the 2nd North East Para Games 2025 held in Guwahati, Assam. The event coincided with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025, observed under the theme “Societies for Advancing Social Progress.”
Sikkim secured a total of nine medals across Athletics, Badminton, Chess, and Table Tennis during the games, conducted from November 26 to 29.
During the ceremony, Shri Samdup Lepcha, Hon’ble Minister of Social Welfare & Women, Child, Senior Citizen & Divyangjan Welfare Departments, congratulated the athletes and presented each medal winner with a cash award of ₹50,000 as a token of appreciation. He noted that such initiatives play a crucial role in motivating athletes and encouraging youth to pursue sports as a path to both career and personal development.
The department’s efforts to recognize and support para-athletes were widely appreciated. Ms. Normit Lepcha, Principal Director-cum-Secretary of the Department, along with senior officials, also conveyed their congratulations and lauded the athletes’ dedication.
Dr. R. B. Biswakarma, Technical Director (Para Sports), expressed heartfelt gratitude to the department for the meaningful recognition, stating that such gestures serve as a powerful source of encouragement for all para-athletes.
