Honorable Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur participated in the final of the "First Governor Archery Gold Cup 2026 (Compound) Tournament" as the chief guest.
The state-level "First Governor Archery Gold Cup 2026 (Compound) Tournament" concluded at the Tathangchen Archery Ground in Gangtok.
This competition, organized with the special efforts of the Archery Association and the support of Lokbhawan, Sikkim, is the first of its kind in the country, successfully held on a large scale at the local level.
In the final match of this competition, a clash between two teams — Dukbu and Green Tara — was witnessed, with a large number of sports enthusiasts gathering to watch it.
The winning team was Green Tara.
The Hon'ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest. On this occasion, the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang, and the Hon'ble Minister of State for Religious Affairs and Sports, Shri Ven Sonam Lama, were also present. The Hon'ble Cabinet Minister, MLAs, people's representatives, members of the Sangh, and a large number of sports enthusiasts enjoyed the game.
The Hon'ble Governor appreciated the success of the tournament held throughout the month, which started with 19 competing teams. The Governor praised this initiative, saying that such sports play an important role in keeping our ancient sports culture alive.
He said that adapting these traditional sports to modern competitive formats is an important bridge for the youth. This not only ensures the preservation of our indigenous identity but also provides local players with an opportunity to showcase their traditional talent at the national and global levels.
The ceremony concluded with the distribution of awards and the 'Gold Cup' trophy as a token of appreciation to the winners on behalf of Lokbhawan.
