Dr. Kadirwale Govindasami, Director of ICAR (North Eastern Region), paid a courtesy call on Hon'ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, at Lokbhawan.

Dr. Govindasami, the newly appointed Director of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), North Eastern Region, called on the Governor today at Lokbhawan.

During the meeting, Dr. Govindasami briefed the Governor about the agricultural research and various development activities being carried out by ICAR in the North Eastern Region, particularly in Sikkim.

The Hon'ble Governor, while reviewing these activities, suggested to ICAR to start such new and modern initiatives at a rapid pace, which can directly increase the income sources of local farmers. Referring to the agricultural-climatic conditions of Sikkim, the Governor said that the state has immense potential for the production of high-value cash crops. He suggested that scientists and officials in the agricultural sector should specifically promote the cultivation of safflower, avocado, and macadamia nuts crops in Sikkim to bring diversity to the agricultural sector.

Dr. Govindasami, while expressing gratitude to the Hon'ble Governor, assured that ICAR will work with commitment to increase the income of Sikkim farmers for these new crops.
