Namchi District Intensifies Drive Against Child Labour Under Pan India Rescue and Rehabilitation Campaign 4.0
Namchi, 03 August: In observance of the World Day Against Child Labour and as part of the ongoing Pan India Rescue and Rehabilitation Campaign 4.0, the Labour Department, Namchi District, conducted a joint inspection and rescue drive across Namchi Bazaar on 03 August 2026. The campaign is being carried out in accordance with Letter No. 128/WCSC&DWD/MVS/2026 dated 01 July 2026, aimed at the identification, rescue and rehabilitation of children engaged in labour, and will continue until 31 August 2026.
The inspection was undertaken by the District Task Force constituted for the effective implementation of the Child & Adolescent Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Act, 1986 (as amended), and the Rules framed thereunder. The drive was conducted in the presence of the SDM, Namchi, and witnessed the participation of officials from the Labour Department, District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Education Department and Namchi Police Station.
During the drive, the Task Force inspected several commercial establishments across Namchi Bazaar to ensure strict compliance with the provisions of the Child & Adolescent Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Act, 1986 (as amended). The team also interacted with employers, workers and members of the public to raise awareness about the prohibition of child labour and the legal consequences of employing children.
During the inspection, one suspected child labourer was rescued after no valid proof of age could be produced on the spot. The individual was subsequently produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Namchi, for the necessary enquiry and verification.
Following a thorough enquiry and verification of the relevant documents, it was established that the individual had already attained the age of 18 years and was therefore not a minor. Accordingly, the individual was released and handed over to his guardian.
The Labour Department reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of children and appealed to employers and the public to promptly report any instances of child labour to the concerned authorities. The Department further emphasised that such coordinated enforcement and awareness drives will continue throughout the campaign period to ensure a child labour-free environment across Namchi District.
