KVK Namthang Conducts Programme on Promotion of Integrated Farming System at Sadam
Namchi, 9 February:
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Namthang organised a day-long programme on the Promotion of Integrated Farming System (IFS) for farmers of Sadam village in Namchi District. The programme was funded by ICAR–Indian Institute of Farming Systems Research (IIFSR), Modipuram, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.
The programme was graced by the Hon’ble Adhakshya, Namchi District, Ms. Anjeeta Rajalim, as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present included Hon’ble Panchayat Shri Kamal Dahal and members of the executive body of the Sadbhawana Farmers Club.
The Sadbhawana Farmers Club, formed in 2013 and promoted by KVK South Sikkim, is one of the actively functioning farmers’ clubs in the district. Farmers of Sadam village participated enthusiastically in the programme.
The welcome address was delivered by Shri Hem Prasad Chuwan, Chief Coordinator of the Farmers Club.
At the outset, Shri Indra Prasad Shivakoty, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK South Sikkim, briefed the participants on the mandated activities of KVK and the institute’s continued involvement in the village for the benefit of the farming community.
Dr Pravesh Shivakoty, Subject Matter Specialist, KVK South Sikkim, highlighted the importance and need for adopting integrated farming systems and also spoke on the support extended by ICAR–IIFSR for organising the programme.
Ms Yangchenla Bhutia, Subject Matter Specialist, KVK South Sikkim, delivered a technical session on tomato cultivation, covering management practices and improved varieties released by ICAR institutes.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest Ms Anjeeta Rajalim appreciated the farmers and the Sadbhawana Farmers Club for their active involvement in agriculture and their willingness to adopt improved and modern technologies. She also thanked KVK for motivating and guiding farmers towards sustainable livelihood enhancement.
The programme also included a critical input support component, under which farmers were provided with poultry chicks along with vaccines, tomato seeds, and knapsack sprayers.
A live demonstration on poultry vaccination was also conducted. The programme concluded with a field visit to farmers’ fields.
