The National Press Day is observed across the country on 16th November every year to recognise the significant role of the Press and the Media in upholding the principles of democracy. In observance of this important occasion, the celebration for the year 2025 will be held at Manan Kendra in Gangtok on 25th November 2025 as the observance could not be held on the stipulated date earlier owing to unforseen circumstances. Honorable Chief Minister Shree Prem Singh Tamang, who is also the concerned Minister of Information & Public Relations Department, will grace the occasion with his benign presence.
As part of the annual programme, awards are presented to journalists for their excellence and credible contribution in promoting responsible and ethical journalism. For this year, five awards will be conferred to the recipients in acknowledgment of their dedicated service and continued efforts to safeguard the freedom of expression and to fulfil their responsibilities as essential pillars of democracy.
The awards for the year 2025 are announced as follows:

Chief Minister Award for Reporting on Human Rights (Yearly) Shri Hem Subba
