Pakyong District Hospital Conducts Sensitisation Program on “Role of NGOs, SHGs, and Samaj” in TB Control Efforts

Pakyong, August 11:

Pakyong District Hospital, under the Health & Family Welfare Department, successfully conducted a sensitisation programme on “Role of NGOs, SHGs, and Samaj in elimination of Tuberculosis” at the Pakyong PHC Meeting Hall, today. The event aimed to strengthen community involvement in the fight against tuberculosis (TB) and to promote the ongoing TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

The programme was headed by Dr Nagendra Gurung, State TB Officer, along with Dr Madan Mani Dakal, Chief Medical Officer, Pakyong District , Dr Digcha Shree Rai, Dental Surgeon & Coordinator,Pakyong PHC, Dr Hishey Chopel Bhutia, Dental Surgeon, TB Cell Pakyong PHC, and other members from Pakyong PHC.

Distinguished guests from various NGOs, SHGs, and community organisations across Pakyong district actively participated.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Nagendra Gurung emphasised that TB should no longer be a public health concern if communities work collectively.

“TB should no longer be a public health concern if we act together,” said Dr Gurung, stressing that TB tests are free, sputum transportation costs are covered by the State TB Cell, and patients receive government nutritional benefits during treatment.

Dr Madan Mani Dakal, CMO Pakyong District, highlighted prevention and nutrition as key pillars in TB control. He reiterated the district’s commitment to achieving a TB-free society through sustained community awareness, adding, “A well-informed community is our biggest prevention strategy.”

The programme also emphasised the objectives of the 100-day Intensified TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan Campaign, which began on 18 June 2025 in Pakyong district. As part of this campaign, a Health Mela was organised, focusing on awareness, counselling, and screening services-with around 60 people screened for TB.

The programme concluded with a fruitful Q&A session between the guest speakers and community members, encouraging open dialogue and addressing key concerns about TB prevention, treatment, and government support schemes.
