Gangtok, September 15:

A five-day training on the revised Facility-Based Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illnesses (F-IMNCI) was conducted at STNM Hospital, Gangtok, under the Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) programme from 8th to 12th September 2025.

The training aimed to strengthen healthcare personnel's knowledge and clinical skills in managing common neonatal and childhood illnesses, focusing on reducing child morbidity and mortality through evidence-based practices.

The resource persons included the Head of Department, Paediatrics, STNM Hospital, Director, RCH, and Joint Director, RCH, who provided expert guidance and facilitated interactive sessions. The programme included lectures, case discussions, demonstrations, and clinical practice to enhance participants’ capacity in facility-based management.

The program aims to reduce child mortality and morbidity by improving the management of sick newborns and children under five at healthcare facilities.

Early identification and treatment of common childhood illnesses (pneumonia, diarrhoea, malaria, measles, malnutrition).

F-IMNCI provides standardised training for health workers in both clinical management and counselling skills.
