First Alumni Meet at Hee-Yangthang School ‘Back to Roots’ to Reconnect Old Bonds and Memories
Gyalshing, 10 September: Government Senior Secondary School, Hee-Yangthang is set to organise its first-ever Alumni Meet. The special programme, titled ‘Back to Roots’, will be held on September 19, 2026, at the school premises. School Principal Narayan Basnet, School Management Committee President S.M. Hembya, and Alumni Association President Vishal Subba shared information about the objectives of the programme, the school’s educational journey and achievements, as well as the role of alumni in the development of the institution.
Speaking at the press conference, Principal Narayan Basnet spoke about the establishment and journey of Hee-Yangthang School. He said that the school is not merely an institution that imparts textbook knowledge, but a place where knowledge, values, discipline and the foundation of life are nurtured. He stated that over the years, the school has provided education to generations of students and helped many of them establish themselves in different fields. He stressed the need to further strengthen the bond between the school and its former students, adding that the first Alumni Meet would serve as an important opportunity to connect the school’s rich history with the present generation.
The School Management Committee President S.M. Hembya highlighted the various achievements of the school and acknowledged the continuous support of teachers, students, parents, school management and the local community behind those accomplishments. Describing the alumni as an invaluable asset of the school, Hembya said that former students can make significant contributions to the development of the institution and the present generation of students through their experience, knowledge, skills and capabilities. He emphasised the need to institutionalise the relationship between the alumni and the school and establish more effective collaboration in the coming days.
Similarly, Alumni Association President Vishal Subba provided detailed information about the ‘Back to Roots’ programme scheduled for September 19 and appealed to all former students to participate in the event. He said the programme has been organised with the objective of bringing back memories of childhood days spent at the school, classrooms, lessons received from teachers and the unforgettable moments shared with friends. He urged former students to consider the event as an opportunity to return to their alma mater after many years and reconnect with old friends, teachers and the entire school family.
According to the organisers, the programme will not be limited to a one-day reunion. It aims to establish a long-term relationship between the alumni and the school and increase the participation of former students in providing academic guidance, counselling, motivation and support to present and future students, as well as in various creative and constructive activities. School life is one of the most memorable chapters in a person’s life. As time passes, people move into different fields and different parts of life, but the bond with the school where they first encountered the light of knowledge never truly fades.
