The Gangtok Division, Forest and Environment Department, enthusiastically observed the opening day of Paryavaran Parva 2026 through a series of environmental conservation and awareness programmes across its territorial ranges.
Under Gangtok Range, saplings were distributed to the concerned jurisdictions, while weeding and maintenance of the Mero Rukh Mero Santati (MRMS) plantation were carried out at Perbing Khasmal, Ranka, with the active participation of nursery and field staff.
At Ranipool Range, a cleanliness drive was conducted at the Ranipool Forest Check Post in collaboration with the Rumtek Driver Association to promote environmental cleanliness and create awareness among drivers and the public. Awareness was also provided on the online permit system for the transportation of sand, stone, stone chips, and other forest produce. In addition, the staff undertook cleanliness drives at the Ranipool Range Office and Rumtek (T) Block Office.
Under Singtam Range, weeding, maintenance, and casualty replacement of approximately 160 saplings were carried out at the MRMS plantation site at Ramitey Khasmal, Khamdong. The activity was aimed at ensuring healthy growth and improving the survival rate of the plantation, thereby contributing to long-term ecological restoration and environmental sustainability.
Meanwhile, Kyongnosla Range marked the occasion by continuing its ongoing avenue plantation drive from 8th Mile to 10th Mile. The plantation programme was carried out under the guidance of the Range Officer, with active participation from the Lagyap Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC), local community members and departmental staff.
The observance of Paryavaran Parva across the Division reflects the department's continued commitment to forest conservation, environmental protection, community participation, and the vision of a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Sikkim
