Gangtok, 6th July 2026: As part of the ongoing observance of Sikkim Paryavaran Parva 2026, the Gangtok Forest Division carried out a series of plantation maintenance and site preparation activities across its territorial ranges, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable forest management and environmental conservation.
Under Gangtok Range, a weeding drive was conducted at Bulbulay Reserve Forest, Selep Tanki as part of the post-plantation maintenance programme. Field staff and the Quick Response Team (QRT), under the supervision of the Range Officer, removed weeds and unwanted vegetation surrounding existing saplings to ensure better nutrient availability, adequate sunlight, and healthy growth.
At Kyongnosla Range, avenue plantation activities were successfully completed with the plantation of 320 saplings, including Rhododendron spp, to enhance the scenic beauty of the area in the years ahead. Repair and maintenance of the plantation site were also undertaken.
Meanwhile, Ranipool Range carried out preparatory work for the upcoming Mero Bato Mero Bot (MBMB) plantation programme along the Nandok Road Reserve. Over a stretch of approximately two kilometres, cleared unwanted vegetation and prepared planting pits to ensure the successful establishment of future plantations.
Similarly, Singtam Range organized a weeding and maintenance programme at the MRMS plantation site at Sakyong Gaucharan, ensuring favourable growing conditions for young saplings through regular upkeep.
These coordinated activities reflect the Gangtok Division continued dedication to strengthening plantation survival, enhancing green cover, and promoting environmental stewardship through sustained field-level action under Sikkim Paryavaran Parva 2026.
