1st Sikkim Futsal League 2026:-
The Futsal Association of Sikkim (FAS) has taken a landmark step in the development of futsal in the state by organizing the 1st Sikkim Futsal League 2026, the first-ever league of its kind in Sikkim. The tournament has brought together 10 competitive teams, who will battle it out over 45 league matches at the GMC Futsal Arena, providing an excellent platform for young footballers to showcase their talent while promoting the fast-growing sport of futsal across the state.
Today’s fixtures witnessed two exciting encounters. The opening match featured Feru FC taking on Ultimate FC, followed by an equally competitive clash between ASDEA and Risers FC. Both matches displayed high-quality football, determination, and sportsmanship, reflecting the growing standard of futsal in Sikkim.
The Chief Guest for the day’s matches was Shri Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, Additional Political Secretary to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, who appreciated the initiative of the Futsal Association of Sikkim in creating a structured league that encourages youth participation, nurtures sporting talent, and promotes a healthy lifestyle. He congratulated the organizers for their vision and encouraged the participating teams to compete with discipline, dedication, and the true spirit of sportsmanship.
The event was also graced by Dr. Sonam Ethenpa, Vice President of the Sikkim Football Association, as the Guest of Honour. Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the growing importance of futsal as a pathway for developing technical football skills and expressed confidence that the league would play a significant role in strengthening grassroots football in Sikkim.
Adding a valuable educational component to the event, Dr. Palden Wangchuk Bhutia, Resource Person for Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR Training, delivered an informative session on emergency response, emphasizing the importance of Basic Life Support and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in sports. He encouraged players, coaches, and officials to acquire life-saving skills that can make a crucial difference during medical emergencies on and off the field.
The 1st Sikkim Futsal League 2026 marks a significant milestone in the sporting history of the state and is expected to serve as a foundation for identifying promising talent while fostering a vibrant futsal culture in Sikkim. The league is not only providing competitive opportunities for athletes but also inspiring the next generation of footballers through quality competition, community participation, and professional sports management.
