In continuation of the observance of Sikkim Paryavaran Parva 2026 under the theme "Leave a Green Legacy," the Gyalshing Territorial Range organised a cleanliness drive at Darap on 9th July 2026 in collaboration with Darap Sinpheng GPU, Darap Sinpheng JFMC, Nambu JFMC, Rimbi JFMC, Clean and Green Sikkim NGO, Darap Tourism Development Committee and the Police Department. The programme was conducted with the objective of promoting environmental cleanliness, improving public hygiene, and encouraging community participation in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from the officers and staff of the Gyalshing Territorial Division and Gyalshing Territorial Range, along with representatives and members of all the collaborating organisations. Working together with a strong sense of responsibility and teamwork, the participants carried out the cleanliness campaign with great dedication.
During the programme, the Divisional Forest Officer, Gyalshing Territorial Division, delivered a brief awareness session on “Nasha Mukt Bharat” highlighting the importance of a drug free society and encouraging the youth and local community to stay away from substance abuse. The Divisional Forest Officer also emphasised the importance of environmental stewardship and appealed to everyone to actively participate in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
During the drive, litter, plastic waste, and other non-biodegradable materials were collected from roadsides, public spaces, and the surrounding areas of Darap. The collected waste was properly segregated and temporarily piled up for disposal. The accumulated waste will be transported and disposed off in collaboration with Gyalshing Nagar Panchayat using its garbage truck at the Sipchu Dumping Ground to ensure proper waste management. The activity also served as an awareness campaign, educating local residents, visitors, and business establishments about the harmful effects of indiscriminate waste disposal, the importance of proper waste segregation, and the need to maintain clean public spaces.
The cleanliness drive reinforced the message of environmental stewardship and sustainable waste management while encouraging the community to adopt responsible waste disposal practices. The active involvement of the local community and partner organisations reflected a shared commitment towards preserving the natural beauty of the area and promoting a cleaner, greener environment. Photographs of the cleanliness drive, highlighting the participation of officers, staff, and members of all collaborating organisations, are enclosed below as part of the event documentation.
The programme concluded successfully with the wholehearted cooperation and active participation of all stakeholders. The joint initiative of the Gyalshing Forest Department, Darap Sinpheng GPU, Darap Sinpheng JFMC, Nambu JFMC, Rimbi JFMC, Clean and Green Sikkim NGO, Darap Tourism Development Committee, Gyalshing Nagar Panchayat, and the Police Department demonstrated their collective commitment towards environmental conservation, public cleanliness, sustainable waste management, and the vision of "Leave a Green Legacy."
