One Day Capacity Building Programme on Crime Scene Management Organised by State Forensic Science Laboratory, Sikkim

The State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL), Home Department, Government of Sikkim, organised a One-Day Capacity Building Programme on Crime Scene Management today at the Conference Hall of State FSL, Sikkim, Jalipool, Gangtok, aimed at strengthening the knowledge, skills and practical capabilities of Investigating Officers in the scientific handling of crime scenes and forensic evidence.
The programme brought together Investigating Officers and police personnel from all districts of the State for an intensive technical interaction with eminent forensic experts from the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Delhi Campus, and FSL, Delhi.
The programme covered key aspects of modern crime scene investigation, including crime scene management, systematic documentation and collection of forensic evidence, explosives and arson investigation, preservation of evidence, and the role of forensic psychology in criminal investigations. Participants were also introduced to the newly acquired Mobile Forensic Vehicles of SFSL Sikkim and their role in facilitating scientific and timely examination of crime scenes.
The expert sessions were delivered by distinguished resource persons, including Prof. (Dr.) Rajendra Kumar Sarin, Professor of Forensic Science, NFSU Delhi Campus; Dr. S.K. Sharma, Professor of Practice, NFSU Delhi Campus; and Mr. Deepak, Forensic Psychology Expert, FSL Delhi. The interactive sessions provided participants with an opportunity to discuss practical challenges encountered during investigation and gain insights into the application of scientific and forensic methodologies at the scene of crime.
The programme assumes particular significance in the context of the new criminal laws and the increasing emphasis on scientific investigation and forensic evidence in the criminal justice system. It also forms part of SFSL Sikkim's continuing efforts towards capacity building and strengthening the integration of forensic science with investigation and prosecution.
The programme also provided a platform for strengthening coordination between the State Forensic Science Laboratory and investigating agencies, with effphasis on timely, systematic and scientifically sound collection and preservation of evidence.
