The Food Safety Cell, Government of Sikkim, conducted a food safety inspection at various sweet shops and food establishments in Rangpo Bazar ahead of Diwali festival.
During the inspection, the Food Safety team examined the hygiene and sanitary conditions of the establishments, checked the quality and proper storage of food items, and verified compliance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the regulations.
During the inspection, 25 kg of suspected adulterated paneer was seized by the Food Safety team. The seizure was carried out in the interest of public health to prevent the sale and distribution of unsafe food in the market. Necessary action under the relevant provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, will be initiated in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
The inspection drive forms part of the department's ongoing efforts to strengthen food safety surveillance and enforcement, particularly in view of the increased demand for sweets and dairy products during the festive season.
The Food Safety Cell reiterates its commitment to safeguarding public health and urges food business operators to strictly adhere to food safety and hygiene standards. Consumers are also encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspected instances of food adulteration or sale of unsafe food to the concerned Food Safety authorities.
