Workshop on Price Monitoring Held at Food & Civil Supplies Department, Gangtok

Gangtok, October 29:

A workshop on Price Monitoring was organized today by the Department of Food & Civil Supplies, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India.

Shri Sandeep Kumar Singh, Senior Statistical Officer from the Department of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Government of India, served as the resource person for the session.

The workshop was attended by the Secretary, Additional Secretary (PDS), Joint Director (PDS), Assistant Director (PDS) along with Data Entry Operators, Inspectors, Sub- Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors of the Department.

During the session, participants discussed the importance of regular and accurate price monitoring of essential commodities, which plays a vital role in ensuring market stability, protecting consumer interests, and supporting evidence-based policymaking.

The workshop also included discussions on price reporting methodology, market/shop and variety selection, and report verification procedures. In addition, the importance of the Essential Commodities Act (EC Act), 1955 was highlighted, emphasizing its role in regulating the production, supply and distribution of essential goods. The workshop concluded with felicitation of the participants
