The Legal Metrology Unit and the Consumer Protection Cell under the Food and Civil Supplies Department have inaugurated the first Vehicle Tank Calibration Station in the State at Singtam, near the Singtam Food Godown.
The facility was formally inaugurated today by Shri Bhoj Raj Rai, Hon’ble Minister, Food and Civil Supplies Department and Urban Development Department, Government of Sikkim, in the presence of senior officers and staff of the Legal Metrology Unit, Consumer Protection Cell, and the Food and Civil Supplies Department.
The newly established calibration station marks a major milestone for Sikkim, aimed at strengthening the accuracy of measurements, ensuring fair trade practices, and enhancing consumer protection. Vehicle tank calibration is essential for verifying the correct capacity of fuel tankers and other liquid carrying vehicles, thereby preventing quantity-related discrepancies during transportation and distribution of essential commodities.
With this state-of-the-art facility now operational within Sikkim, the Legal Metrology Unit will be able to conduct timely inspections and enforce measurement standards more efficiently, reducing dependence on external calibration centres.
The Department reaffirms its commitment to promoting transparency, safeguarding consumer interests, and improving regulatory infrastructure through initiatives such as this.
